Gene is here

WordPress 6.9, codename Gene, has just been released.

My WordPress auto-updated, so I saw it first in my log!

This release contains some really nice and useful features. The major two ones are notes and command palette everywhere:

Block Notes

First out is a new feature that makes collaboration using WordPress even better: Notes! With notes users can add notes to blocks. It can be comments like suggestions or just a thumps up. Notes are threaded so multiple notes can be added to the same block. Really useful for teams!

Simple History has support for logging when notes are added, modified or removed. And when notes threads are resolved. So using this activity log makes it easy to follow what your co-workers are doing on your website.

Yes, we decided to add a screenshot to the paragraph above!
And this is how the comment looks in the log. Without this added to the log the team would have missed that the comment was added!

Command palette

Just press CMD+K (Mac) or CTRL+K (Windows) to show the command palette on any screen. This is a very convenient way to access Simple History. Just press the key combination and enter “History” and press enter and you navigate to the site history log.
