How Simple History Became a WordPress Essential

The Problem That Sparked Simple History

In the early days of WordPress, the platform was mostly seen as a blogging tool. But with the release of WordPress 3.0 in 2010, everything changed. Custom post types unlocked new possibilities, transforming WordPress into a powerful tool for building all kinds of websites.

At the time, the Simple History founder was running his own web development company and like many agencies back then, they had their own CMS for client projects. WordPress 3.0’s features inspired them to explore it for their clients’ websites. It turned out to work very well and all were excited by the flexibility and ease of use of WordPress.

However, there was a glaring problem:
How could we know what had been changed on a website?
When clients updated plugins or editors modified content, there was no way to track those changes. Logging into WordPress often felt like stepping into the unknown. What’s new? What’s been updated? Who made the changes?

This lack of visibility inspired us to create a plugin that could answer these questions—and so, Simple History was born.

A History Log Built for All Users

From the start, Simple History was designed to make activity tracking straightforward and user-friendly. It wasn’t just a tool for developers or administrators; it was built for all WordPress users, including editors and site owners.

Since then, the plugin has evolved significantly, but the vision has remained the same: To create a simple, effective activity log that works for everyone.

Trusted by over 200,000 websites

Today, Simple History is trusted by over 200,000 websites around the world. It’s used by bloggers, businesses, developers, and agencies to keep track of what’s happening on their sites. The plugin continues to grow, with new features and integrations being added to meet the needs of the WordPress community.

…and we’re not done

At Simple History, we’re committed to making WordPress easier to manage and more transparent for users of all skill levels. With ongoing updates and add-ons, we’re excited to keep improving the plugin for years to come.
